International Oasis Festival of Tozeur

It was during the year 1938 that the International Festival of the Oases of Tozeur held its first edition. It was then interrupted during the Second World War, before being reborn with the independence of Tunisia. In 1991, the festival became international. Today, this festival is considered one of the biggest cultural and touristic event of the southern region.

Generally organized during January, it is a celebratory event that animates the region of Tozeur. Tozeur, city known as the capital of south-west Tunisia, has 45,000 inhabitants and is endowed with an oasis of 400,000 date palms. Moreover, the city offers ideal conditions for tourism with its mild and dry climate outside the summer and its splendid Oases, which attract more and more visitors.

The program includes community parades and street parades, performances highlighting the local customs and traditions, plays, craft workshops, film screenings, horse races and palm date harvesting demonstrations.
